I watched Connor take the quiz. I am interested in the book, as I have never read it and the questions made me want to read it now too. Maybe over break I can borrow his copy.

ASSIGNMENT DUE DATE: FRIDAY, DECEMBER 2
Suspense: a state or condition of mental uncertainty or excitement
Foreshadowing: to show or indicate beforehand; prefigure
Supense
I think that an example of suspense is when Miss brent received the letter from a unknown name(pg.8). I think that she made the right choice in going to Indian Island because there have been some things in the newspaper recently about it. I think it had suspense because it makes you want to know who invited her to the island. I think that a second example is when Mr. Wargrave gets the letter from Lady Culmington(pg.2), it is suspenseful because mr wargrave has to think about when the last time that he ever saw her was, so it makes you wonder why she would right to him. Another example is the Indian poem
"10 little indian boys went out to dine, one choked himself and then there were
9 little indian boys stayed up very late, one overslept himself and then there were
8 little indian boys traveling in Devon, one decided he'd stay there and then there were
7 little indian boys chopping up sticks, one chopped himself in half and then there were
6 little indian boys playing with a hive, a bee stung one and then there were
5 little indian boys going in for law, one got in chancery and then there were
4 little indian boys going out to sea, a red herring swollowed one and then there were
3 little indian boys walking in the zoo, a bear hugged one and then there were
2 little indian boys sitting in the sun, one got frizzled up and then there was
1 little indian boy left all alone, he went and hanged himself and then there were none"
( pg. 31) .. this poem is mysterious and in every line it talks about a indian boy dieing.
Foreshadowing
(pg.15) "watch and pray, watch and pray, the day of judgement is at hand"
(pg.26) " queer business when you come to think of it- the whole thing was queer- very queer"
(pg.29) "she looks frightened of her own shadow"
(pg.28) "Mr.Owen- unfortunately delayed- unable to get here till to-morrow"
Our group chose these examples because they were good examples for these definitions. They really showed suspense and foreshadowing, and gave good examples. They were all somewhat mysterious and made you think what will happen. These examples, i think, gave good and detailed examples of suspense and foreshadowing.
Connor- Your group DID choose good quotes. They certainly are examples of suspense and foreshadowing. The two are closely related; if the suspense makes you uncomfortable, it can make you think that future happenings may not be so good. Your explanation of why you chose the quotes is a bit skimpy. More details and ideas would show a clearer understanding of the plot line. Hope you are enjoying the book thus far. Keep that in mind for future assignments! Mrs. M 12-4-12
